Hi Mom ………THIS is where I am after work each day

Livin La Vida Sonoma……

I KNOW……. the LEGS!!!!!!!

Yes all 6’7″ of him CANNOT POSSIBLY fit on a lounge chair………….

All that is missing from the photo are the hot girls and beer cans……….……

He NOW lives HERE ….He actually lives in the Fume Blanc dorms in a place called Sauvignon Village

It is ALL wine …ALL the time in Sonoma!!!!

What is a Mom to do but plan MANY wine tasting trips….

The campus EVEN has its own pizza place with a delivery service…Amicis!!!

It has the driver's name on the door. This is Mario's little red truck....

The local Safeway workers had WAY TOO MUCH TIME on their hands so they built a mural out of the soda boxes……..REALLY????

Life is STRESSFUL there in Sonoma land……..

BUT here’s where the story gets interesting………or less interesting if I lost you already…..

I packed all the comforts of home I could think of for the first-born…….

He calls in the first days and asks for “you know those things you have that plug into the wall and smell good”

He wanted some Wallflowers……ahhhhh the boy likes the smell of HOME!!!!!

Picking MANLY scents!!!

I EVEN got him one with a NIGHTlight!!!! Be safe......

I EVEN got him a wallflower with a NIGHTlight…..

On another random note, when said son came home last weekend we went to one of our favorite restaurants

On the way back to the car, I saw these beauties blooming……

Strawberries in SAN FRANCISCO……….in the suburbs no less!!!!

I was so taken aback by my find that I missed another plant in need of love…….

YES, NIC is Behind the plant!!!!

This Ficus was on the street near the strawberries with a sign attached to it that read…..

I am taking REALLY good care…….

Let's Get Going........

The time is near…………..He will SOON be on his own…………..I am so proud!!!!!

He DID fit in MY lap ONCE!!!!

The days of me watching over him like a hawk are over………

He will make his own choices…………

He will buy his own groceries…….LOVE to see THAT bill 🙂

He DID learn FROM the MASTER though…….

He will take with him the LOVE & SUPPORT of his brothers

That FAMOUS Drew SMILE!!!!

He has found SUCCESS wherever he goes, so I know college life will be NO Different………….

As I write this, my house is filled with his BEST friends eating Drew’s FAVORITE Mexican food and laughing  AND yelling ……….making Ozzy bark…………

Ahh……………. I will MISS HIM SO MUCH!!!!

I LOVE my children, I REALLY do, BUT there comes a time when I  want to sit in a corner and pull each grey hair, one by one. They have caused them, they are responsible…. I am sure.

Take the WIZARD, aka Mr. Firstborn……. Mr. “If I drop my clothes on the floor, I can step over them for days, no one will mind.”

I was going to take a picture of said floor, but THAT would cause MAJOR humiliation…….

like this sign… hangs over the door to HIS room……

His two best buddies NOW call HIM the WIZARD.

Laugh all you want boys, I BOUGHT that sign and it was for privacy……

it’s funny, so grow up!!!

Ozzy & I went into the WIZARDS room and Ozzy tried to dig to the bottom of the clothes pile. I told him it would be an all day dig, so he would be better off napping on top.

I LOVE that dog…….have I told you?

Ozzy's FRIENDS.....NOT!!!!

Speaking of Ozzy, he tries SOOOO hard to get the cats to like him…..only the all black one, Chester tolerates him. Miss Honey pretends like he is not in the house and Cooper spits and hisses and they dance back and forth paws flying on a daily basis.

The BOYS of baseball…….

4 nights a week, I am driving either NIc or Ryan to baseball….rush home….. get cleats…… rush off…….all in a day

NIc @ bat “STOP taking my picture, you are bothering ME!!!” Pic by Mark on hipstamatic..blurring by ME

Ryan’s turn……

OK..we JUST lost, but here is a FORCED smile MOM....

The GIANT's got NOTHING on THIS swing!!!!!

Here’s 2 boys spending their father’s money $$$$$$$$$ at the Giants Game……

WHERE IS the kettle corn guy????

This week I am focusing on bunnies & baskets..Easter is my FAVORITE time of year to pick up some great treats……

Helllloooooo PEEPS........time to bite your little fluffy artificial flavor heads off....

WELCOME to Target..leave YOUR $100 over there just for walking IN!!!!

How did THAT get in MY basket?

As the mother of 3 busy boys, 1 very busy husband, 3 crazy cats, 1 sweet dog, there comes a time when I need to yell “STOP THE INSANITY!!!”

This time usually comes after I have worked TOO MUCH (think…..” poor me”) or I am just plain TIRED.

Some random ME time can come in the form of……

a trip to the movie theater …..Sitting in  the back row, BUTTERED popcorn for 1 (yes, I know 1500 calories) , Diet Coke in my Timbuk2 bag, oogling Ashton Kutcher in a sappy romance

a manicure AND pedicure that takes me away for a bit…..Bring on the trashy magazines….

lunch with the BEST girlfriends EVER…catching up

a morning walk with the black lab dog…… breathing in and out and taking in the view……PEACEFUL

Why, you say does a mother of 3 need ME time?????

Well, it usually starts off with an incident

getting in my car last week and everything, I mean everything was STICKY…….steering wheel, gear shift, emergency brake, cup holder

Yes, the oldest one drove MY car WHILE eating an orange…….so healthy you say…… angry as I had to “destick” my steering wheel with Clorox wipes…

Is it EVEN LEGAL to drive while peeling and eating an orange?????..I may have to check the DMV Drivers Handbook on THAT one!!!

In my line of work, I can do blood, I can do vomit, but STICKY grosses me OUT!!!

I was never a fan of suckers either when they were young…..sorry Tootsie Roll

the middle one got a report card that says he talks excessively…….now WHERE did he get that from??

the little one is such a doll…….he sat through a girl movie the other night “Julie & Julia” just to hang with me……ok, so he is NOT the reason for my need for ME time

I know one day , it will just be Me, Mark, cats & the dog, (or dogs by that time) and I will miss the INSANITY.…..

BUT for now…I need to recharge my batteries once in a while……

Now where is the remote, I think American Idol is on?????

At least Jeff Probst could help me!!!!

It started with the littlest one….went out to dinner and he ordered a spicy steak burrito. I was worried as his tender tummy does not usually do well with spicy. “This is great ” he said as he devoured the burrito.

That night, as I laid my very tired head on my pillow, I heard ” We have a vomiter” from Mark downstairs.

Running down, I saw the littlest one throwing up said burrito all over the throw rug in his room.

Good catch I thought.

I was in the process of moving the rug as Ozzy ,the black lab, came up behind me and started eating the vomit. THAT almost made me get sick as I was in shock.

This is my first dog remember, so I had no idea they have a fondness for gross things.

I helped Ryan clean up (after asking Ozzy to please go back downstairs) and he settled back to bed.

When I asked Mark how he knew someone was getting sick in the room, he told me Nic called him from his cell phone in his bed.

No yelling “Hey Dad”, for this kid, let the phone do the talking. Boy, times have changed…

IT was an all night affair. Up to bathroom with Ry, bring water, back to bed, up again, back to bed.

The next day was a 15 hour day for me as I had a meeting in the am and an evaluation at work for one of my advisees.

I was looking quite stylish in my “up all night, dark circles under the eyes look”

Made it through my night and was awakened by a text the next afternoon from Mark about Victim number 2, who was leaving remnants of a pizza hot pocket on the soccer field.

I texted Mark “Please get him out of the game and he replied, “He won’t stop playing, it is the playoffs”

Finally Nic got home , in the shower and his drama began. Now, Nic is like Shakespeare when he gets sick…

it is all woe me, arms flailing, drawn expressions, it is an Academy Award in the making.

Nic took over Marks spot in the bed, so Mark slept in Nic’s bed that night.

The next morning, I get a call ( why talk face to face to each other anymore?) from Mark that he had a headache and was not well.

Victim number 3 comes to light and Mark is in bed all Sunday as I am in the process of STILL recovering Othello” To get sick or not to get sick” up in my room.

All linen washed, Ginger Ale the only drink in the frig….Andrew( the oldest) & I are considering masks.

Monday morning…. Nic still not 100%, Mark barely hanging and Victim number 4 hanging over the toilet and it is not ME!!!!!!

I am the Soul survivor…time to bring on the Immunity challenge..SO GLAD I got that MANDATORY flu shot at work!!!!

I barely had time to write this post with all the running up and down the stairs, changing linen and other off duty nurse responsibilities….Let’s go for a walk OZZY!

Make it a TALL glass of white wine for ME!!!

Looking Good in Blue

It started like any other Sunday. The desire to sleep in, dreaming of a peaceful day. The phone rang and the peace stopped. My oldest son was in an accident. Not just any accident, a bike accident that could have been so much worse.

It was a fundraiser for school. I had that “motherly instinct ” earlier that morning. Made sure his emergency equipment was secured to his bike, name, phone number…the one they called……

The race was over 20 miles and I knew it was too long. We rented the BEST bike, he tried it out. ….all good, he said.

Heading uphill by the Great Highway, he hit a pot hole and flew over the handlebars……all 6’3″ of him. The girl at the water stop saw it, she ran to him, stayed with him , sang ” the shoulder bone connected to the collarbone” to him, knowing his collarbone had broken.

Mark rushed to the scene, me right behind him, bed head and all. It was a site. Flashing ambulance lights, other bicyclists hanging out.

Off to the ER,…Xrays, elbow broken all the way through, pins to be placed. Collar bone broken, passed out, off school for a week, pain medicine, private nurse off work for her most challenging patient.

Fast forward one year.

All healed. Met and appreciated so many during this ordeal..the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mac at Kaiser SSF, the ambulance crew, the nurses, the people who helped him and us recover, heal, get on with life.

A life I am most grateful for EVERY day!

Family was a huge support..favorite Halloween cereal from Aunt Tisa, a cookie bouquet from Aunt M, a care package from Bakersfield Aunt M & Uncle Homer……calls, texts, wishes, offers to help.

This October 25th , I celebrate the blessings we received and keep so close in my heart what could have been.

Something for the Facebook page

I have a problem. I can’t help myself. I can’t stop. I have adopted the word SERIOUSLY and I use it for EVERYTHING!

Help me…… Help myself.

It is happening at work. at home, with friends, with the dog…it is over the top. It means so much in my life and it’s hard to let go. Sometimes when the boys just do that thing, that one thing that drives a mother crazy, it comes out.

Then the dog, yes, the sweet dog comes in the house with a dripping wet ball in his mouth, it comes out.

I need to put a rubber band on my arm to remind me to stop. Seriously..well maybe……

Hey, the new season of Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t even started yet and I know Grey likes “my word”
